Read the directions on your ballot carefully to determine if you can use
pen or pencil. You may be able to mark your ballot in pen or pencil, depending on which tally machine your county uses.
- Erasure Marks
The instructions on your ballot warn you not to erase a vote. The intent is to keep your ballot free from any unwanted markings so the optical machine can correctly read it. If there are eraser marks on your ballot, your ballot will still be counted. - If the Machine Cannot Read the Ballot
If you accidentally mark your ballot using the wrong utensil or if the scanner has difficulty reading your ballot for any reason, then your ballot will be exactly duplicated to allow for proper scanning.
