cover: When the current Oregon State Capitol was built in 1938, it was
deemed fitting that two separate trails vital to the opening of the Oregon
Territory be made monumental. A stele of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark,
led by Sacagawea, flanks the east side of the Capitol steps (the pioneers
