Ginny Burdick is a strong voice in the State Senate for education, the environment and sensible gun laws. She fought for a bill to require criminal background checks at gun shows. The bill failed by just one vote. But Ginny Burdick won't give up.

"During the legislative debate on her gun show bill, Burdick told lawmakers that if they didn't pass it she would travel the initiative route and ask voters to do what the Legislature refused to do. True to her word, she filed her initiative..."
             Eugene Register-Guard, 11/13/99
"Lawmakers failed to pass a modest gun show bill, and now voters fed up with violence must take the initiative... Sponsors of the gun show bill in the Legislature, including Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland, and a broad coalition of law enforcement groups, have filed an initiative..."
            The Oregonian, 12/3/99
Willamette Week, 7/14/99, rated Senator Ginny Burdick, "Excellent."
Ginny Burdick's initiative -- now Measure 5 -- is supported by law enforcement officials, physicians, responsible gun
owners and others. Join them in voting YES on Measure 5 to close a dangerous loophole in Oregon law -- a loophole that allows criminals and juveniles easy access to guns.
