Harper's experience as commander of the Air National Guard base in Klamath Falls capped a military career that included two combat tours in Vietnam. He chose to live in Eastern Oregon for the reasons you live here - the land and the people.
Harper's years of military service helped hone his LEADERSHIP skills. Harper proved his abilities in the private sector by revitalizing the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce. Republican peers elected him to serve as Majority Leader in the 1999 session demonstrating his ability to "get things done". Our District deserves the superior leadership he can deliver.
Harper wants our district to PROSPER by preserving and expanding our jobs and business base. Our natural resource based economy is under assault from people that don't live here. Harper knows we can have a sound economy and a healthy environment. That's what he will fight for.

A civilized society demands certain functions be provided public safety and welfare, education, infrastructure, etc. Most government provided services should be subject to free market competition, with appropriate oversight and monitoring. Only then will we have the confidence those services are provided in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
