PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: None

Corporations pay lower tax rates than most human beings do. They fund our elections with some of the money they save, then get the politicians to dole out millions of dollars in corporate welfare and to set unfair tax rates after taking corporate campaign contributions. This cycle corrupts the democratic process and has to change for social justice to take place on numerous other issues. A new system of progressive State income taxes, public financing of elections, and eliminating corporate welfare subsidies will make Oregon a better place to live. Exposing this vicious cycle and the way to end it is the main reason I am running for office, but I want to do more.

As your State Senator, I will also work to

• Make the minimum wage a LIVING WAGE of at least $10.00 an hour.

• End old growth logging. Replace clear-cutting with selective thinning to help protect our forests and preserve jobs. Use industrial hemp to reduce the demand for pulp fiber from trees. SAVE EAGLE CREEK!

• Promote Universal Health Care. Make the HMO's pay back money they got from overcharging the State and use it to help expand the Oregon Health Plan.

• Stop funding our schools by turning the working poor and middle class into compulsive gamblers with State-sponsored video poker. Use progressive property taxes to help fund our schools instead.

• Create police accountability. I favor a strong elected civilian review board with subpoena powers, the ability to conduct independent investigations, and the final say in cases of misconduct.
