On Budgeting
In times of plenty, government should invest in infrastructure and store up some money for the lean times. In lean times, run lean and cut the fluff like any business or family. Better yet, like a good business, don't add the fluff in the first place. We should pay for services provided. For example, gas taxes should pay for road maintenance, etc.
On Democracy and Voting
I like Oregon's ballot measures. They are a good way of letting our politicians know what we want. There are other things that we could do to give voters a better voice. Instant Runoff Voting (http://www.fairvote.org/irv/) is one of a number of things that could save money and better represent voter's preferences.
On Security
I want to feel secure here in Oregon. I also want my freedom and privacy. These are not mutually exclusive values.
On Energy
I have a lot to say on this topic. We can do much more to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We should decentralize our energy production and refining capacity to improve the energy grid's resilience to disasters. We should invest even more in renewable energy.
