Dear Friends:
You honored me in 2004 by electing me your representative. I have spent my time as a legislator doing my best to live up to the trust you've placed in me.
I've worked hard to reduce government waste by supporting more aggressive audits of state agencies. I also sponsored legislation that protected funding for Oregon Project Independence, which allows seniors who do not qualify for Medicare to receive in-home care, rather than forcing them to move into institutions.
As an educator, I know that we need to do a lot more to make schools more accountable and successful. I fought for a no-cuts budget that provided enough funds so schools would not be forced to close early or increase class sizes. I am also fighting to create an understandable budget process for schools so that funding will be spent in the classroom where it is most needed. We cannot afford to undermine education by spending absurd amounts of money on perks for retiring administrators.
Keeping our community safe was another of my priorities. I sponsored the law making information on predatory sex offenders available on the Internet and helped pass the nation's toughest anti-meth law. Next session, I'll fight to impose murder charges on chronic drunk drivers and make it a crime for sexual predators to solicit children online.
Serving you has been a great honor. With your support, I will keep representing the views of District 22 next year. Thank you for voting and keeping our state the vibrant, beautiful place that it is.
Sincerely,
Betty Komp
