It's Time for a Change

I decided to enter public life in 2003, after Oregon experienced a $500,000,000 budget shortfall caused by the state's high unemployment. School days were cut. Schools were closed. Prisoners were let out early. The Oregon Health Plan and vital human services for seniors and the disabled were slashed.

People died because of those cuts.

2003 was also a year when the corporate kicker kicked in, giving $86,000,000 to Oregon's largest, most profitable corporations. Nearly 80% of that money went out of state.

I support streamlining regulations to make it easier to attract businesses to Oregon, but I also believe that out-of-state corporations operating here need to pay their fair share.

That isn't happening today.

In the 1970's corporations operating in Oregon accounted for nearly 24% of the state's income tax. Today, they pay less than 5%. Multi-state corporations operating in Oregon enjoy the lowest tax burden in America, while our citizens have the highest payroll tax in America.

That needs to change.

But it will only happen when we elect politicians who will stand up for Oregonians against the special interests that currently dominate in Salem.

Because of this, I am not accepting contributions from businesses and trade associations or labor organizations that do not operate in Yamhill County.
