Dear Friends,
Two years ago, I asked you to give me the opportunity to apply my lifetime of problem-solving skills to the challenges facing our community.
I've done my best to honor your trust in me by concentrating on things that matter:
No more golden parachutes. Championed ending expensive bonuses and perks for retiring school administrators, fought for a no-cuts education budget.
Affordable health care. Worked to reduce prescription drug prices and hospital rates.
Reduce government waste. Supported aggressive audits of state government programs.
Tougher penalties for sex offenders. Helped pass laws making information on predatory sex offenders available on the Internet and imposing tougher sentences for sex crimes against children.
With your support, here's what I'll focus on in the future:
Fairness in school funding. Stop sending hundreds of millions of dollars in corporate kicker money to out-of-state corporations while local families struggle to keep our schools open.
Lower insurance costs for business. Create more lowcost insurance alternatives so small businesses can cover employees and their families.
Stabilize school funding. Establish a Rainy Day Fund to stabilize school funding over the long term.
Reduce crime and drug use. Hire 125 new state troopers to battle the meth epidemic and make it a crime for sexual predators to solicit children online.
I feel good about our accomplishments over the past two years, but there's still much work to do. I'm committed to finding needed solutions to the challenges facing Oregonians.
Sincerely,
Chuck Riley
