Turning the Tide for the South Coast

Putting Education First

Our schools need stable, secure funding. That's why I refused to vote for any plan that contained cuts to schools. As Principal of Marshfield High, I worked with limited funding and still came up with ways to craft a quality education. Today, educators are running out of options. We must finally make education top in our budget process and fund schools first.

Protecting Our Children

I helped lead the fight to pass Jessica's Law, which makes tougher sentences for sex crimes against children. I also voted to make it a crime for sex offenders to be in the same place as children.

Making Health Care Affordable

Too many working families don't have access to affordable health care. I fought to require health insurers to hold public hearings before they can raise our rates and to expand Oregon's prescription drug pool to include thousands more citizens.

Immigration

I will work to force the federal government to do its job and secure our nation's borders. Illegal immigrants come here to get jobs so we must crack down on corporations that knowingly hire undocumented workers so they can pay lower wages.

Jobs that Support Families

The South Coast needs more family wage jobs and strong businesses. I've been working hard to protect our local businesses and to ensure that Oregon jobs stay in Oregon.
