This is a complete listing of candidates for the office of United States Senator for the January 30, 1996 Special Election. Each candidate listed here has chosen to file a statement in the voters' pamphlet and has paid the required $1,000 fee.
While the candidates appear in alphabetical order by their last name in this voters' pamphlet, you will notice that they appear in a different order on your ballot.
Under a new law, a "random alphabet" is drawn for every election. This random alphabet determines the order in which the names of candidates appear on the ballot.
The alphabet for the January 30, 1996 Special Election is as follows:
J, B, T, X, H, D, Z, C, U, I, V, G, M, R, O, W, Y, P, N, K, F, Q, E, A, S, L
Using the random alphabet, the candidates will appear on your ballot in the following order:
Vickie Valdez -- Socialist
Lou Gold -- Pacific
Ron Wyden -- Democrat
Gene Nanni -- Libertarian
Karen E. Shilling -- American
Gordon Smith -- Republican
