Awards: Springfield Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen of the year, 1997; Eugene City Club Turtle Award (for willingness to stick neck out), 1999; Oregon Mayor of the Year, 1994; Lane County Elected Official of the year 1992 and 2005

Founder or Co-Founder: Springfield Filbert Festival, 1989; Springfield Sports Center 1990; Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity, 1991; Project Starfish, 1995, Springfield Community Development Corporation, 1996; Springfield Community Band, 1996

Education Committee: Bill served for four sessions and supports the Quality Education Commission's recommendation for full funding of K-12; will continue to work for better health in schools by getting junk food out and physical education in.

Health Committee: Bill has served as Chair of a Senate Health Committee for two sessions and will continue to work for better health practices on Oregon.

Three of many achievements: Chief sponsor of SB870 which now provides permanent and steady funding for Oregon Project Independence for seniors and disabled persons.

Chief sponsor of SB785 which established the successful Oregon Prescription Drug Program and is the Chief Practitioner of Initiative 122 which will expand coverage for prescription drugs to all 780,000 uninsured individuals in Oregon and needs 75,630 valid signatures to get on the 2006 general election ballot.

Chief Sponsor of SB557 which requires tsunami warning system and evacuation routes for residents and visitors along the Oregon Coast.
