Occupation: USAF Colonel, retired; Oregon State Representative; member of interim House Committees on Judiciary and Education and House Task Force on DHS Review; State Commission on Children and Families House member; served on Joint Ways and Means Committee in 2005 Session; Oregon chair of American Legislative Exchange Council.

Occupational Background: 27 year USAF career; served in command, leadership, staff, and diplomatic positions in Vietnam, Germany and Yugoslavia; Air Force and Secretary of Defense staffs in the Pentagon.

Educational Background: MA in International Affairs, University of Arkansas; BA in Journalism, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Air Command & Staff College; National Defense College.

Prior Governmental Experience: Chair and Vice Chair of Deschutes County Commission on Children & Families; five term Deschutes County precinct person; Sunriver Board of Directors; past Treasurer and Chair of Deschutes County Republican Party.

Community Service: Served on Homeless Leadership Council; multiple veteran organizations; member of Sunriver Christian Fellowship Church; former youth sports coach and PTA officer.

Family: Married to fourth generation Oregonian, Josie Coffey. Josie works part-time for Sunriver Resort and is a member of the Assistance League of Bend. Son, Todd, and his wife Melissa live in New Bern, NC; grandson Colby was born in 2004.

Gene believes in individual freedom, the free market and local government decision-making. He believes in effective, accountable, and transparent State Government, and in putting Oregon's economic recovery at the forefront.

Gene knows lower taxes and less regulation will grow Oregon's economy. A healthy economy will ensure stable funding for a quality education system, provide care for seniors and disabled, and keep our children safe. He will support a public safety program to fight meth, hold criminals accountable, and address illegal immigration.

Gene will focus on natural resource and agricultural issues by supporting farmers and ranchers and protecting the rights of property owners.
