Kate sponsored and passed a bill requiring the State to invest in Oregon Venture Capital firms to create new businesses, particularly in the high paying technology industry. (HB 3613, 2003)

And Kate will always protect a woman’s right to choose.

Lowering Health Care Costs

To fight the rising cost of health care, Kate pushed to create a lower-cost basic health benefits package for small businesses so more working Oregonians have access to health care. (HB 2537, 2003)

As Democratic Leader, Kate fought for the creation of Oregon’s Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program giving low-income seniors discounts on their medications. (SB 9, 2001)

Protecting the Environment

Kate balanced job creation with protecting our natural resources by blocking a bill to drastically increase logging in the Tillamook State Forest without guarantees of new jobs. Instead, Kate fought to allow additional harvesting under the current management plan, safeguarding the forest while supporting existing jobs. (HB 3632, 2003)
