Prior Governmental Experience:Chairman Wheeler County Democratic Central Committee; precinct committeeman. Member, Wheeler County Cultural Trust Coalition.

Personal & Family:Married to Celia, 43 years; three grown daughters, twelve grandchildren; life-long member and leader of local United Methodist Church.

Leadership:Past President & Board Member, Oregon Small Schools Association; former treasurer, board member, Eastern Oregon Regional Arts Council; Vice-Chairman, Asher Community Health Center (Fossil).

Educator:Jack Lorts has been a teacher and school administrator for the past forty-two years, the past sixteen years as superintendent/principal of three small, rural school districts; presently he is School Superintendent in Fossil. For twenty-six years prior to that, he taught in elementary, middle and high school classrooms. For the past sixteen years, he has been a leader for the rural schools of Oregon. He has led his schools through the trials of Oregon’s fiscal problems. He has had to make the hard choices of cutting personnel and programs. He knows that Oregon’s schools are hurting. He needs to be in Salem to help Oregon schools out of this current fiscal crisis.

Jack Lorts believes government should be part of the solution!

He believes government has a responsibly to maintain livable, viable communities, and to be supportive of individuals and families through the development of family wage jobs and effective economic development strategies. He believes in the Oregon Health Plan. He believes that personal and community safety are fundamental rights, and that the justice system must protect the rights of victims. He believes that the working people of Oregon want to support their schools. He believes Oregon needs to reform its tax system. He believes government should be part of the solution!
