Janie Burcart was born 56 years ago in England where she grew up. She came
to this country in 1969 to study at the University of New Mexico, and in 1972,
after obtaining a Masters Degree, she moved to Oregon where she has
lived ever since. She married in Eugene and her daughter Emma was born there.
Emma is a first grade teacher in Portland.
Janie is active in the community. She serves as
attorney coach of the La Grande High School Mock Trial team. Janie is President
and a founding member of the Garden Gate Club, and a member of the Lions Club.
Janie is the Law Enforcement Choice for DA: she
is endorsed by Sheriff Steve Oliver, the La Grande Police Association, the
Ontario Police Officers Association and the Malheur County Sheriffs
Employees Association.
Janie is the Victims Choice: she has been
a champion for victims throughout her 13 year career in public service. Janie
specialized in prosecuting child abusers and in 2001 she received an award
for this work. She has a record of vigorous prosecution and seeks full restitution
for all victims in all types of cases.
Janie is the Experienced Choice: she has over a
decade of experience as a prosecutor, at the trial and appellate level. She
serves on the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bars Juvenile
Law Section and was recently appointed to the Juvenile Law Task Force created
by the Bars Board of Governors.
