During the 2007 Session, Sal and the bipartisan Southern Oregon delegation created a rainy day fund so that vital services are not lost in economic downturns; created a medically involved home-care program for seniors; set school food and beverage health standards; and made it a crime to furnish sexually explicit material to children. Sal also co-wrote the House rules allowing all Representatives to introduce legislation.
The issues important to Sal include:
- State Police: We need to create stable funding for more police to ensure citizens are safe
- Illegal Immigration: We need to have people who want to be in America do it the right way
- Tax Relief: It's time to have a serious conversation and look at tax relief for working families owning property
- Health Care: We need a participatory solution to affordable health care for Southern Oregonians
- Seniors a Priority: Sal is active on the Medford Senior Center Board, helped obtain Senior Center funding, and helped save Project Independence
- Efficient Government: State government needs to live within its means, and be efficient and accountable
- Education: Funding education from kindergarten through college is vital
- Local Control: We need local control of state programs
- Economy: Southern Oregon needs a strong business climate, sustainable natural products industries, diverse and clean manufacturing companies, and a strong service industry to create living wage jobs and a thriving community
