Occupational Background: Policy Analyst, Oregon DHS; Instructor, LBCC; Regional Coordinator, Oregon Parent Training and Information Center
Educational Background: MAIS, Oregon State University; BA, Earlham College
Prior Governmental Experience: Corvallis School Board; State Representative; Oregon Progress Board
It has been a privilege to represent the people of Philomath and Corvallis in the Oregon House of Representatives.
I helped make contraceptive equity a reality for Oregon women. We passed historic domestic partnership and antidiscrimination legislation and made a sound investment in our future by establishing Oregon's first general purpose Rainy Day Fund. I was proud to champion the effort to provide health care to 117,000 Oregon children, and it was a privilege to vote for the most comprehensive package of sound environmental and energy legislation in decades.
I voted for the best budgets for K-12 schools and higher education in 16 years, and successfully advocated for funding to build the Linus Pauling Center on the OSU Campus and the new Health and Science Building on the Linn-Benton Community College Campus.
In my first term, I was elected Assistant Majority Leader by my peers and successfully sponsored and passed several of my own bills, including:
* Karly's Law which improves child abuse investigations
statewide, by mandating that children with suspicious injuries
see a physician within 48 hours.
* HB 2405 which creates a statewide electronic permitting program. The largest regulatory streamlining initiative for the construction industry in the nation, it will save Oregon businesses and consumers time and money.
* HB 2918 which prohibits insurance companies from discriminatory practices against children with disabilities.
* HB 3515 which creates tough new laws to protect children from online sexual predators.
You can continue to count on me to advocate the needs of our community and to stand up for the most vulnerable among us. Together, we can protect the best of what Oregon has to offer, while building a hopeful foundation for an even brighter future.
