There is only one issue that commands our attention. That is whether this generation of humans, now living on planet Earth, will adjust their behavior to prepare for the well being of subsequent generations or will we continue business as usual. All other concerns must be considered in light of that central question.
The nature of planet Earth is changing. This is no longer deniable. The rapidity of this change is still in question. What actions, if any, can mitigate the change are debatable.
It will, however, take a concerted effort of all sectors of the society to avoid the dark scenarios portrayed in Hollywood movies. A truly beautiful and amazing future awaits our species if we can work together now in recognition of a threat that we cannot perceive in our daily life.
"The choice is ours—yours and mine. We can stay with business as usual and preside over an economy that continues to destroy its natural support systems until it destroys itself, or we… can be the generation that changes direction, moving the world onto a path of sustained progress. The choice will be made by our generation, but it will affect life on earth for all generations to come." - Lester R. Brown; Mobilizing to Save Civilization
