    Dear Friends:

You sent me to the Capitol to work hard and face difficult challenges head on.

And with so many of our friends and neighbors losing their jobs, my top priority is rebuilding our economy. That’s why I voted to extend unemployment benefits for nearly 19,000 Oregonians whose benefits have run out or will soon expire.

But it’s going to take a while for our economy to get back on the right track. That’s why my jobs plan for the future includes grants and low interest loans to small businesses that increase hiring, cutting red tape so entrepreneurs can start new projects, and more job training and placement for people looking for work.

Even in tough times, we have to keep our promises to seniors. That’s why I believed it was important to support Oregon Project Independence and in-home care for seniors so people can live with independence and dignity.

To keep our community safe, I supported laws that increased penalties on sex offenders, Internet predators, and drunk drivers. I also helped restore 24/7 State Trooper coverage on Oregon’s roads.

And after working as a special education teacher, middle school principal, and school board member I’m still concerned about protecting and strengthening our local schools. Helping schools reduce class sizes and stay open for a full school year will always be top priorities for me.

The hard work is certainly not done yet. So I’ll keep doing my best to be a reflection of your priorities and your work ethic.
