Judge of the Circuit Court
Occupation: Judge James C. Egan currently serves on the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for Linn County.
Occupational Background: Immediately after graduating from law school, Jim passed the bar examination and started practicing law as an associate at Emmons Kyle Kropp Kryger & Alexander in Albany. He became a shareholder of the firm in 1989. The firm ultimately became known as Kryger Alexander Egan Elmer & Carlson.
Educational Background: Jim Egan was born in Lebanon, Oregon and grew up in the farming community of Tangent. He attended West Albany High School (Diploma 1974), Oregon State University (transfer), Willamette University (Bachelor of Science 1979), and the University of Oregon School of Law (JD 1985).
Prior Governmental Experience: Jim Egan is a member of the Oregon State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all Oregon Courts (1985), United States District Court for the District of Oregon (1996), and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (2000). Jim served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, the Marine Corps Reserve, and the Army Reserve. In 2008, he was deployed to the Middle East for a year where he served as the Deputy Command Judge Advocate, ASG Kuwait.
Community Service: Jim taught business law to soldiers enrolled at the University of Maryland, Arifjan, Kuwait campus. He currently serves as the Command Judge Advocate for the 104th Division, Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was president of the Oregon Trial Lawyers’ Association (2005-2006). Jim served as a delegate to the Oregon State Bar Association House of Delegates (2001–2005). He was President of the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Attorneys (1996-1998). Jim served on the Tangent Rural Fire Protection Board of Directors (1996–2008).
