JEAN COWAN
EXPERIENCED, PROVEN LEADERSHIP
Jean Cowan has spent 18 years working for her communities as Mayor
of Elgin and as Lincoln County Commissioner for the past 12 years. She is
a thoughtful, compassionate leader who listens and works hard to get results.
Our Children Deserve More
As our State Representative, Jean Cowan will find ways to stabilize school
funding and provide the educational opportunities we owe our children and
grandchildren. Jean's background includes extensive research into education
funding, and she understands the challenges schools face in our district.
Healthcare for our Most Vulnerable Citizens
As a former health care worker, Jean recognizes firsthand the challenges facing
health and human services. In Salem, she'll work to lower prescription costs
for seniors and improve access to affordable healthcare.
Improving Oregon's Economy
Jean Cowan will continue the effort to put Oregonians back to work. Oregon
is a beautiful place to live, but it is imperative that we create and support
the kind of family wage job growth necessary to energize and sustain its vitality
and economic recovery.
Putting our Safety First
A former medical assistant, Jean has served as a volunteer Emergency Medical
Technician EMT and reserve police officer. As County Commissioner, Cowan also
helped create the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team, which has successfully
gone after meth manufacturers and dealers. Jean also led efforts to get repeat
drunk drivers off our roads.
Making State Government Accountable
Jean Cowan will work to close loopholes that allow companies like PGE/Enron
to pay only $10 per year in state taxes. She will limit the influence of lobbyists
and oppose efforts to allow them to give gifts to legislators.
