Reform Party Statement
IF YOU WANT REFORM VOTE REFORM
The Reform Party of Oregon asks you to put trust and integrity back into our political system by being a participant in our electoral process. Educate yourselves on the issues and candidates. Become involved and participate in the political system by registering Reform Party. Do not allow yourself to believe that a vote for a candidate other than the two major parties is a wasted vote. It is NOT. It is an influential and motivating vote. Independent voters and thinkers can and do change laws and legislators.
REMEMBER, IF YOU WANT REFORM VOTE REFORM
THE REFORM PARTY OF OREGON PLATFORM:
-
Calls for a diminished role of government in everyday life. Taxes should be reduced and less service should be provided. All
government action should be taken as local as possible.
-
Calls for Oregon affairs to be decided in Oregon and not in Washington DC.
-
Calls for term limits in public office. An elected official should serve only three terms in the house and two terms in the senate or executive branch.
-
Calls for lobbying reform. Elected official and civil servants upon leaving office should not be allowed to lobby the legislature for five years. Lobbyists should be limited to giving information only.
-
Calls for citizen review committees to review all government services provided and to make recommendations to the legislature wherever agencies should be consolidated or abandoned. Government redundancy should be eliminated wherever appropriate.
-
Calls for a withdrawal from encumbering treaties such as NAFTA and GATT, and the elimination of fast-track authority.
-
Wants parents to be allowed to take responsibility for their own children. State agencies that interfere with parental responsibility, should be a service to counsel and assist families AT THEIR REQUEST unless evidence of criminal conduct affecting children exists and must be closely regulated by a citizen's panel.
-
Calls for a significant improvement in the means of educating our children. The state should abandon outcome-based education and return to teaching children how to read, write and count. Teachers should be qualified by local school boards at the district level.
-
Calls for the second amendment to the US Constitution to be upheld - that all citizens have the right to bear arms.
-
Calls for strong support of the tenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution - that all powers not specified to the federal government by the constitution belong to the states.
-
Defends the rights of individual property owners to lawfully use their lands however they deem fit, without unconstitutional
encumbrances from the state or federal government. We call for an immediate stop to illegal government seizure of property.
-
recognizes the absurdity of enforcement of consensual crimes in a free society. The police force should be protecting people from each other, not themselves.
-
calls for swift and assured punishment upon conviction of a major crime.
-
The Reform Party of Oregon calls for judicial reform. The constitution is the law of the land and must be followed by the judiciary. The legal profession's monopoly on law must be returned to the people in the form of justice. A law degree should not be a
requirement; qualified laymen should be allowed to sit on a legal bench.
-
would like to see the law of the land rewritten to make sense to the average Oregonian. No administrative rules can be enforced without legislative approval.
-
calls for the United Nations to have no legal status in the state of Oregon and to remove all UN presence immediately.
