. . . WORKING TO MAKE GOVERNMENT WORK FOR YOU!
Since the Republican Revolution of 1994, GOP lawmakers in Salem and Washington, DC, have worked diligently to keep our promise to you: To make government smaller, more efficient and more responsive.
WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT . . . BUT THERE'S STILL A LOT TO DO!
IN 1998, KEEP REPUBLICANS WORKING FOR A BETTER OREGON AND A BETTER AMERICA!
Because Republicans are working for you in Washington, DC:
Because Republicans are working for you in Salem:
When Kitzhaber proposed a nine-cent per gallon gasoline tax increase a tax that would have made Oregon's among the
highest in the nation Republicans said no way!
When Kitzhaber proposed a $1.20 per line tax on every telephone line in Oregon to pay for a study of rail transportation in the Willamette Valley Republicans stopped it.
When Kitzhaber proposed a truck weight-mile tax so high it threatened the survival of small Oregon trucking companies not to mention family farms Republicans shot it down.
When it was learned that one of every four lobbyists working in Salem was working for state agencies, and that one agency had spent $200,000 to hire an outside lobbyist to build support for a huge tax increase, Republicans passed a bill to limit lobby
activity by state government.
John Kitzhaber's response to this blow against bloated state government: He vetoed it, despite the fact that it allowed the
governor's office to continue to run the biggest lobbying shop in Salem. In fact, in his four years as governor, John Kitzhaber has vetoed almost 100 bills passed by your representatives many of them designed to reduce the size and cost of government.
