He led the successful fight in Congress against fast track trade legislation that put the interests of workers and the environment a distant second behind the interests of huge multinational corporations. His fight for fair trade policies puts him squarely on the side of working people, the environment and international human rights.

Peter DeFazio insists a balanced budget doesn't have to make deep cuts in Medicare, education, and other vital investments in the American people. Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan congressional watchdog group, named him a taxpayer hero for his votes to cut wasteful government spending. Peter was one of only 23 House members to earn the honor this year.

KEEPING OUR TAX DOLLARS AT HOME

"DeFazio Secures Funding for Rogue Bridge."

For years, Oregonians have sent more federal gas tax money to Washington, D.C. than they received in federal highway and transit funding. In this year's highway bill, Peter DeFazio was able to restore some balance to the equation, increasing funding to the state by 50 percent. The money will find its way to a host of transportation improvements, including a renovation of the historic Rogue River bridge, and investment toward high speed rail, improvements to the Albany rail station, safety improvements to Highway 58, bike paths in Eugene and Springfield and repairs to the Coos Bay rail bridge.
