OCCUPATION: Mayor, City of Springfield.

OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: Social Studies teacher, Springfield High School, 1962-90.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: B.A. Economics, Political Science, Carroll College, Helena, Montana; M.A. Education, University of Oregon.

PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: Springfield Mayor, 1989 to present; Springfield City Councilor, 1988-89; Lane Council of Governments; Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority; Metropolitan Waste Water Commission; Metropolitan Policy Committee.

Personal: Janice (wife), eight children, twelve grandchildren. Springfield resident since 1961.

Awards: Springfield Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen of the Year, 1997; Eugene City Club's Turtle Award (for willingness to stick one's neck out on important issues), 1995; Oregon Mayor of the Year, 1994; Lane County Elected Official of the Year, 1992.
