Why am I running for the Oregon Legislature?

Excellent question. I have a good day job (software engineer), a fun hobby (The Palace Theatre) and am enjoying my personal life more than ever before. I've been the mayor, a city councilor and am currently a library board member. So why am I running for the Oregon legislature?

I am concerned that we're making poor choices for our future. I believe we must invest in appropriate public educational opportunities for our next generation, and I also believe in effective incarceration for criminals (a position that has earned me the formal endorsement of the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association). I am convinced that we can accomplish both these goals without increasing your taxes. We just need to manage the taxes you already pay more prudently.

I believe in appropriate land-use planning to ensure our quality of life and guard against environmental destruction, and still provide the resources and freedom we need. We must also manage growth to preserve our distinctive lifestyle.

There are big differences between me and my Republican opponent. I believe our legislature should carefully manage the public business, and get government out of our personal lives. I believe you are perfectly capable of making the right choices about your family and lifestyle issues, and we need to involve government only when absolutely necessary for the public good. My opponent has repeatedly shown that he wishes to poke government's nose into our most intimate and personal decisions, while letting big-money special interests spend your tax dollars.

I'm running for the Oregon State Legislature because I believe you deserve a state representative who understands your priorities. As your representative, I will work on important public business... Period.
