Are you a Libertarian? In the past few years, millions of Americans have heard the Libertarian message and stopped voting for the "lesser of two evils". Conservatives and Liberals alike, are finding that they can now vote FOR rather than against a candidate.

For decades, those who believed in social tolerance voted for Democrats. Those who were concerned with fiscal responsibility supported Republicans. Neither got what they wanted.

The Libertarian Party is the "Party of Principle". The ideals embodied in our platform haven't changed since its founding more than 25 years ago. In brief, Libertarians believe in social tolerance AND fiscal responsibility.

I believe that the men who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 were some of the most intelligent, fearless and honest men in history. They began the great experiment that put power in the hands of the governed for the first time. They understood human nature and planned a society based on the rights of common man. A government that was limited in its power allowed man to be truly free from harassment and tyranny.

Our limited government and free market system resulted in the highest standard of living ever! Millions of individuals, each pursuing a better life for themselves and their families, made America strong. Today however, an expanded federal government threatens our freedom and prosperity.

Republicans say they want smaller government. When they controlled the White House during the eighties, our budget deficits blossomed. They claimed that without control of Congress, they couldn't cut spending. Then in '94, they took control of Congress and this year passed the largest spending bill in the history of the nation.

I joined the Navy in 1979 and spent much of the next seven years overseas. After that, I moved to Tokyo where I worked for CNN and other networks as a news cameraman for nine years. When I returned, in 1995, I was shocked by the degree our government has infringed on our Bill of Rights, supposedly for our own good. Most Americans experienced the changes incrementally and many don't seem to realize the kind of all powerful government we are creating for our children.

When someone joins the Libertarian Party, they are asked to sign a simple statement; "I do not believe in or advocate the initiation of force as a means of achieving political or social goals."

We Libertarians believe that, in a free society, the government should be held to the same standard. George Washington once wrote; "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." Unfortunately, the "servant" has become "master" in our once great nation...and fearful it is! The federal government has proven itself to be a monster with an insatiable appetite for the property and God given rights of the people. We work five months in twelve to feed the beast and year after year it demands a higher percentage of the nation's wealth. Professional politicians must be stopped before we cross the line to tyranny!

Samuel Adams said; "If ever time should come when vain and aspiring men shall hold the highest seats of government, our country will stand in need of it's experienced patriots to prevent it's ruin." I think that time has come.

We have been remiss in our duty as citizens of a free society. We have not been vigilant while standing our watch. It's time to call the government to account!

What have they accomplished with such a huge portion of our wealth? Have they ended poverty? Have they stopped our children from using drugs? Have they protected our homes? Have they insured stable international relations? The answer to these questions is, of course, NO!

Since Johnson declared his "War on Poverty", the percentage of Americans living below poverty level has exploded.

Since Nixon's "War on Drugs" began in the sixties, drug use among our youth has grown steadily while the average starting age has declined.

Our homes are invaded by drug addicts trying to support their habits at black market prices. Our stolen property has corrupted law enforcement officials, made wealthy men of thugs and persuaded inner city children to sell drugs to their friends for a share of the "easy money". Those children protect their turf in drive-by shootings and gang wars that terrorize our neighborhoods.

Our international relations have never been more precarious nor have American citizens ever been more desirable as terrorist targets. We have become the "neighborhood bully!" We push and shove our agenda on foreign governments and flex our economic and military muscles when they resist.

The time has come to remind our government of it's rightful position as servant rather than master. The time has come to end the "force" our federal government is "instigating" at home and abroad. The time has come to support the ONLY party which truly believes in the limited federal government envisioned by the great men who began this experiment in human liberty. The time has come to support the FASTEST GROWING party in America. The time has come to vote Libertarian!
