Dear Fellow Oregonian,

Thank you for your support in the May primary. With your help in November I will return to Salem to work on the issues important to all of us including education, crime and transportation.

My family settled in Jackson County in 1902. I was raised and educated here. My wife, Dixie, and I have raised five children in Ashland and are the proud grandparents of seven.

After attending Southern Oregon State College, I went to work for 21 years for the City of Ashland. Later, I started my own small business as an insurance agent and, 10 years later, am a senior agent for Standard Insurance and a successful partner in a Medford insurance agency.

In 1974 I decided to run for the Oregon Senate and won against long odds. Taking care of southern Oregon's needs has always been important to me. Some Rogue Valley projects I am especially proud to have participated in include, moneys for road improvements, funds to modernize Southern Oregon University, including student housing, a computer science center and other construction projects at the University. Capital projects benefiting the Medford Armory and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival were also developed, funded and completed during the last few years.

During the 1997 Oregon Legislative Assembly I served on the budget writing Ways and Means Committee chairing the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education and serving on the Human Resources Subcommittee. These will be key issues facing the next legislature.

Thank you for your support. I ask for your vote on November 3rd.
