LLOYD KUMLEY has visited thousands of voters at their homes. They've said Sen. Gene Derfler doesn't represent them, because:

EDUCATION: Our schools are in crisis, yet Derfler tried, again in 1997, to slash school funding, indiscriminately threatening efforts that help keep kids safe, in school, learning, and out of trouble. LLOYD KUMLEY's LONG EXPERIENCE in school support work has shown him what other leaders have told us: resources invested in the early years keep youngsters out of the costly criminal justice and prison system in their later years.

FAMILIES: At the request of a major Big Business contributor, Derfler introduced SB706 (1997) to eliminate Family Medical Leave. LLOYD KUMLEY SUPPORTS FAMILIES' rights to have time to care for sick and injured family members.

WORKERS COMPENSATION: Derfler's 1995 workers compensation bill (SB369) denies thousands of legitimately injured workers medical, rehabilitation, and retraining benefits to which they were previously entitled. LLOYD KUMLEY SUPPORTS A FAIR AND EVENHANDED SYSTEM, and will vote to sunset Derfler's destructive legislation.

GUN SAFETY: Derfler refused to sponsor or support SB700 (1997), requiring background checks for all purchases at gun shows, where felons and gang members buy guns. LLOYD KUMLEY SUPPORTS CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS.

ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY: Derfler voted for SB1226 (1997), supported by his wealthy campaign contributors, to prohibit communities from finding out about toxic chemicals in their neighborhoods. LLOYD KUMLEY SUPPORTS COMMUNITIES' RIGHT TO KNOW about these poisons.
