LISTENING TO HER CONSTITUENTS. Mae helps people with problems. In 1997, she brought railroad, business executives, state and local government officials together to solve the Millersburg flooding problem. PROVIDING PROPERTY TAX RELIEF. Mae was successful in returning approximately $7,000,000 to relieve Linn and Benton County property owners.
CREATING JOBS. Mae sponsored legislation in 1997 which provided opportunities for hundreds of workers to be trained to get electrical licenses and improve services to employers.
REDUCING TEEN PREGNANCY. Mae sponsored legislation which created the successful STARS program, in which 12th grade seniors work with 7th grade students to help understand the consequences of sexual involvement and teach refusal skills.
FIGHTING CRIME. Mae worked with local citizens to establish a Family Resource Center to work with at-risk youth and prevent juvenile crime. Mae supported construction of new detention facilities for juveniles and adults.
STRENGTHENING THE ECONOMY. Mae works to strengthen the economy by making government more accountable improving efficiency and performance.
