Oregon voters have every reason to be disappointed with the Congressional Democrats who talk about peace, but vote to continue paying for war. Representative DeFazio voted to fund the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan six times from 2005 to 2008.

As a peace slate candidate, I pledge to never vote for the "supplemental" funding bills that finance the war against the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and never vote for an increase in the military budget. I will work to get the US troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia, Cuba, Japan, Korea and scores of other nations.

The colonialist adventure in Iraq is bankrupting the country, ruining our reputation among the nations of the world, demoralizing our soldiers, eroding our civil liberties, making energy sources less secure, and wasting resources needed at home.

Imperialism is not a sustainable practice. The United States spends more on defense than the rest of the world's governments combined. The United States is the world's largest exporter of weapons. The United States military is the world's largest single consumer of petroleum products. We are going to war just to secure resources necessary to continue going to war. That doesn't make anyone safer. It only makes the oil companies and the war profiteers richer.

As Marine Corps General Smedley Butler said, "War is a racket!"

There is an alternative. Invest in healthcare, education, housing, infrastructure maintenance, environmental restoration, alternative transportation, energy independence and conservation.

Stop investing in death and international larceny.

Vote Peace! Vote Green!
