In Congress for the past 12 years I've been working against a set of disastrous policies- the unnecessary war in Iraq, reckless predatory lending practices, the failure to have a comprehensive energy policy, and fighting against a bankruptcy law that protects credit card companies instead of American families.

Today, every Oregonian can see the consequences of these policies: collapsing home values, spiraling energy prices, and a huge toll from the war in Iraq.

We know it doesn't have to be this way.

Together we have made a difference.

I am proud to have opposed the Iraq war from the start, as Oregon became one of the first states to understand and turn against the war.

We created landmark land use and environmental policies.

We provided national leadership on the fight against global warming.

We established award winning recycling, energy, light rail, streetcar, and bicycle programs.

By implementing these transportation and energy policies, our average family spends $2500 a year less on transportation than the average family in America.

We accomplished these things because we had vision, worked hard together and had the political will to implement solutions.

That is our challenge today. I hope you will re-elect me to Congress so I can continue to provide this leadership and creativity.

But make no mistake, these are everyone's problems. Every Oregonian needs to become involved; to make sure each of us participates from the Presidential campaign to local legislative races.

I am working hard to change the politics in Washington D.C. and strengthen Oregon, but I need your help for those changes and the tough decisions that will follow.

Together we can rebuild and renew America while we strengthen our families and protect the planet.
